Welcome to Bangkok! (ฝนตกรถติดจ้า)
Sawadeekah!
Happy Monday to you all!!
For me, Mondays were always that day that I hated the most. You know when you were in school, Mondays were like the end of the world or the end of your happiness because you had to go back to school and start studying again. You had to get up early and get ready in a hurry and then get out of the house and meet people when you'd rather stay home sleeping all day like you did the days before.
Well, Mondays aren't really everyone's favorite day. And I totally understand why.
But this Monday, aka. Monday 08-06-2015 will be a Monday that almost everyone in Bangkok won't forget.
As you all might or might not know, our beautiful capital here in Thailand is very famous for the delicious food, the nice and warmhearted people, the huge and cheap shopping centers or markets, the wild and crazy nightlife and all the beautiful buildings and temples.

But there's one more thing that Bangkok is very well known for. and that's....

TRAFFIC JAM!! |
Yes, you heard me right.
The traffic here in Bangkok is absolutely insane! Especially in the mornings and evenings. The roads can be full with cars. Cars, cars and cars everywhere you go.
But it really wouldn't surprise me is there weren't any traffic here. I mean with all the 14 million people living here it would be weird if the roads were clean from cars.
There are more people living in Bangkok than there are in Sweden. More people than the entire Swedish population!! So yeah... The traffic is a bit crazy. :P
There's a saying here in BKK that goes: "ฝนตกรถติด" (Fon tok rod tid), which means that every time it rains, there's the traffic jam. And the saying is very very true. Every time is raining here you can basically hear everyone go "Oh no!!". But if the traffic jam is so common here, why does today have to be so special? Mondays are the first day of the week and it's pretty obvious that the traffic is going to be full.
Well.. Today we had a little rain accident in BKK. As you might know, Bangkok is a big city with lots of people living and traveling in it. So when it rains it's very important to have the best plumbing systems for the water to run through to avoid flooding. Even though BKK is a very developed city, but small accidents can also happen. I mean nothing's perfect right? :)
So today we had a little flooding going on in the center of the city causing the traffic to stop and creating a massive traffic jam. It became huge on the news that "you can't go here or there" or "The traffic on this road or that road is huge" etc.. Many people were stuck in the traffic for many hours and were late to school and work. But luckily, our government did everything they can to fix the flooding and succeeded in many parts of BKK. But the traffic is something that no one have found the answer to the questions "Why?" and "How?" its happens. So the best thing to do when your stuck in a car in the middle of the road, is to find something to do, like listen to music or read a book, in the meantime and wait for the traffic to clear up.
But... if you're traveling to BKK, don't worry about the traffic. I'm not writing this for you to be scared or worried about the traffic jam but just as an experience. There are many ways to avoid the traffic jam here. That's why we've got undergrounds, BTS, and Airport links. These are some of the transportation that's going to help you get around the city fast and easy. And then there's always walking. ;)

Daytime! |
Bangkok just like any other capital in this world. Big, bright and beautiful, but not perfect. So don't judge it by this blog or anything else you read on the internet. Come and see for yourself!
But for me... A Swedish living in Bangkok for 6 years. I have to say that it's really true that the people are and warmhearted and the food is really delicious. All the good I've heard about Bangkok is true. But then it's always up to you. Everyone's got different opinions. And the fact that I'm now a Thai citizen too, I have to say that even though I'm born and raised in Sweden, I'm really proud to be Thai too! <3
